5 Tips for Navigating High School

5 Tips for Navigating High School

By: Lindsay Lam

Whether you’re just starting high school or heading into your senior year, high school is such an exciting phase of your life! It can be full of new experiences and opportunities for growth, but also a scary time when it comes to navigating friendships, doing well academically, and finding yourself in the chaos! We’ve gathered our top 5 tips to help you start the school year with an extra boost of confidence. Let’s make this your best year yet <3

1. stay organized:

You might hear this a lot, but it really is important! If you’re actively involved in sports, clubs, and extracurriculars, it can be hard to find time for yourself and balance your social life too.

  • Use a Planner: Keep track of assignments, tests, and extracurricular activities to stay on top of your schedule! This doesn’t have to be boring - choose a cute planner, grab some stickers, and make your planner unique to you.
  • Establish Study Habits: Find a quiet study spot and create a routine that works for you to maximize productivity. This can totally cut down the amount of hours you spend studying or working on homework, which means more time to get out there and do what you enjoy. And if you study better with others, find your friend and pick a cute cafe or library that will help you focus!

2. build healthy friendships:

Having friends that support you and love you for who you are makes high school so much more memorable! It can be hard to find the right group and might feel lonely especially if you’re new to high school, but the people that make you laugh and feel safe are SO worth it - and might be friends that you stay in touch with for the rest of your life.

Embrace opportunities to meet new people, whether it be from class or clubs! Your best friend might be the friendly girl on your sports team, the next person you sit with in class, or someone you’ve known for years but never really talked to!

3. prioritize self-care:

Your mental and physical health is key! Make sleep a priority and maintain a balanced diet to support your well-being. Aim for at least 8 hours of sleep every night, and try to incorporate regular exercise in your free time! Sometimes that means taking time for yourself and cozying up for a spa night so you can recharge for the rest of the week :)

4. be prepared for periods:

  • Carry Essentials: Always have period products on hand, and consider keeping spare clothing in case of emergencies. We recommend building an emergency period kit to keep in your locker or backpack. Grab a cute bag, fill it with a couple tampons and pads, an extra pair of underwear and shorts, and any other essentials you might need!
  • Track Your Cycle: Use apps or calendars to monitor your menstrual cycle so you’re less likely to have period incidents during school. And if they do happen, don’t feel too embarrassed, periods are SO normal and little incidents happen to everyone :)

5. explore your interests and develop your own style:

Join clubs, sports teams, or activities that spark your curiosity and allow you to have fun! You’ll also meet other people who share your interests! High school is also the perfect time to experiment with fashion to find a style that reflects your personality and builds confidence.
